Kingston driver accused of driving disabled after speeding on Highway 401

Deteriorated driving was one of several charges against a Kingston resident after officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped him for speeding on Ontario’s busiest road.

According to the OPP’s Lennox and Addington Detachment (L&A), general patrol officers saw the driver “traveling at high speed” west on Highway 401 to Greater Napanee at approximately 7 p.m. of Wednesday, July 13, 2022. The vehicle was subsequently stopped by police, who spoke to the driver. The driver was then arrested and taken to the headquarters of L&A OPP, where the tests of a drug recognition expert (DRE) were carried out.

Although the OPP was unable to disclose what types of drugs were involved, as this information would be considered a test in the investigation, the L&A Detachment confirmed on Friday, July 15, 2022 that the DRE test resulted in a deterioration. driving expenses. It was also found that the driver violated a number of conditions and the laws of the Traffic Act.

As a result, Zacharia Wood, 26, of Kingston, was charged with:

  • Driving a damaged motor vehicle: drugs
  • Three charges of breach of a probation order
  • Failure to comply with a commitment
  • Four charges of driving while under suspension
  • Unauthorized license plate use for the vehicle in question
  • Registration obstruction

Wood was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee in August 2022. His license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was driving was confiscated for seven days. Wood will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
