Kojima Productions is trying to remove the report that apparently filters the next game

An independent journalist has drawn the attention of Hideo Kojima’s development studio, Kojima Productions, after publishing a story that reveals alleged details about the upcoming game from the creator of Metal Gear. The play, which according to the journalist is a horror title, seems to be called Overdose and stars actress Margaret Qualley, who previously appeared in Kojima’s Death Stranding. Kojima Productions moved quickly to demand that the story be removed.

Tom Henderson, a freelance journalist who regularly publishes in Try Hard Guides, wrote about Overdose in a June 7 issue. The story included some supposed details about the upcoming KojiPro game, including one that can be played in first and third person. Apparently, the images Henderson saw, which he said were sent to him on condition of anonymity, showed Qualley in a blue suit walking down dark hallways with only a flashlight. After a brief exploration, a jump start hits the screen, followed by a text “Game Over” and then the words: “A Hideo Kojima Game … Overdose”.

This would have been an open and closed case if it had ended there. I mean, Henderson just reported what he saw and that was it. There is nothing more. However, a representative of KojiPro contacted Henderson to try to remove the story, which has given some credibility to this “leak.”

When asked about the situation, Henderson told Kotaku via direct Twitter messages that he learned about Overdose “a couple of days ago,” but that he had heard rumors of its existence “for a long time.” He clarified that what he saw was perhaps “1-2 minutes of footage,” which was enough to inform him, so he shared what he could really verify. Then came KojiPro’s email.

“I’ve seen a game that says it’s a ‘Hideo Kojima game,’ but it hasn’t leaked any footage,” Henderson said. “The essentials [of the email] it was a request to remove the article and social post and they would be happy to work with me when they can share more (I guess they don’t know what I’m doing).

Henderson quickly noted that he had not leaked any official images or videos of the game or “incomplete any NDAs” when he reported his story, but specified that he would share more if KojiPro denied the allegations. Kotaku has contacted Kojima Productions to comment.

According to Henderson, whatever Overdose is, it doesn’t seem to be a sequel to Death Stranding although Margaret Qualley, who played Mama alongside Sam Porter Bridges by Norman Reedus, appears in the game. Curiously, they’re not connected considering Reedus apparently revealed Death Stranding 2 in an interview with Leo men’s lifestyle site last month, though it’s also possible that Reedus’ comments simply meant that he was working on another game with Kojima, not specifically a Death. Jam tracking.

However, Henderson believes that Kojima is reportedly talking to Xbox about the release of his next game, an announcement may be imminent. Kojima also zoomed in with Summer Games Fest host Geoff Keighley last month, so who knows? Assuming it’s a real game, Overdose could show up sooner than we expected.
