LAPD announces arrests made during Friday’s protests in downtown LA

The Los Angeles Police Department announced Saturday that four officers were injured during Friday night’s protests in downtown Los Angeles following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v.

Hundreds of people, men and women, marched through downtown LA on Friday and Saturday to express their frustration with the Supreme Court’s decision to revoke the right to abortion.

LAPD officers parked on 5th Street and Main on Friday were bombed with projectiles, fireworks and an improvised flamethrower, according to a LAPD statement.

The department said one of the arrests was for “resisting the arrest of an executive officer,” alleging a 23-year-old woman tried to grab an officer’s baton.

This woman was identified as Juliana Bernado.

The other detainee was identified as Michael Ortiz, 30. He was arrested for attempted murder, according to LAPD.

The department said Ortiz is responsible for the injuries an officer suffered after being hit by a makeshift flamethrower.
