LOS ANGELES (KABC) – Los Angeles police officers shot and wounded a man who is said to have shot them Friday morning.
At around 9:30 a.m., officers responded to the La Brea Avenue and Beverly Boulevard area after receiving a call from a man pointing a gun at construction workers. It is located just off the border of Hancock Park and the Fairfax district.
When they arrived, the allegedly armed suspect fired on officers, prompting them to return fire, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
That’s when police said the suspect fled, but the man was found and arrested near Beverly Boulevard and Detroit Street shortly thereafter.
Police said the suspect was shot and taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening wound. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
No officers appeared to have been injured in the shooting.
This event has shocked the residents of this neighborhood.
Tyra Spencer tells Eyewitness News that the shooting marks her safety concerns living in Hancock Park, considered one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in LA.
“I make sure I’m home before it’s dark. I stay on the blocks in my neighborhood. I don’t even go through La Brea so much because I don’t feel safe anymore,” Spencer said.
Traffic in the La Brea Ave area between Beverly Boulevard and Oakwood Avenue was expected to be affected for several hours due to the investigation.
