Latrell Mitchell successfully returned from his last hamstring blow but moved quickly to discard the home state III.
Mitchell will not be involved in Origin’s decision, which will be played in Brisbane on July 13, making it clear after South Sydney’s 30-12 win over Parramatta on Saturday night that he would not return for the final.
That means New South Wales rookies Matt Burton and Stephen Crichton are likely to maintain their positions in the centers, as the Blues aim to win consecutive series against the Maroons. Jack Wighton is the only genuine contender to have knocked down one of them, after a positive COVID-19 result knocked him out of the second game.

“I think I’m going to close the headlines now,” Mitchell told Fox League.
“I’ll get out of it and worry about the south, I’ll focus on myself.
“They have a very good team in NSW. Good luck to Burton in the centers, and also to Crichton. Let him go, let him bleed.
“I just want to focus on South Sydney and myself, and get well for the end of the season.”

The Rabbitohs ’complete victory over the Eels at Homebush marked Mitchell’s first game since the fifth round.
He surpassed 80 minutes, made 16 runs of 142 meters and stepped on Eels hooker Reed Mahoney in a magnificent play.
Mitchell’s second major hamstring injury caused South Sydney to fly him to the US to resolve the issue.
Burton’s bomb surprises commentators
Queensland Origin’s great Cooper Cronk described Mitchell’s decision to retire from the selection battle as “a very selfless act”, which Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou echoed.
“Yes, I think it’s huge. You know, he’s very committed … I think he’s also been respectful of the blue team, which played last week and did a great job,” Demetriou said in his post of the party. Press conference.

“I am excited to have him back with a red and green jumper and look forward to the end of the year.
“Now, I’m not in a position to tell anyone that I can’t play Origin. That’s not what I do. It depends on the player … I’m not someone who says you can’t play with the Blues. It depends on him and only him, and has done a great deal of work to get himself into that position.
“He knows what he’s capable of and he’s an older kid. He makes his own decisions.”
