Apple announced this week iOS 16, a major release full of important customization features for the lock screen, new features for Focus mode, the ability to edit and remove iMessages and more.
While Apple showed some of the key features of iOS 16 during its full WWDC presentation, there are dozens, if not hundreds, of smaller features and changes for users to discover. Here’s a list of six changes and new features you may not be familiar with.
Transparent FaceTime video calling user interface
During a FaceTime video call, Apple updated the user interface to iOS 16 to make it completely transparent, with camera buttons, microphone, message, speaker, and SharePlay now larger and easier to touch.
IMessage Mention Tips Now Includes contact images
When you mention a contact in iMessage, the suggestions to mention now include a contact image in the quick tap bar. This can be especially useful in group chats where multiple people can share a first name.
Completely redesigned video player user interface
Apple has redesigned the user interface of the stock video player in iOS 16, making it cleaner by eliminating unnecessary clutter while highlighting basic controls such as volume, play / pause and picture-in-picture.
Redesigned voicemail experience in iMessage
Apple has redesigned the voice messaging experience in iMessage with iOS 16, making it its own standalone iMessage app on the taskbar.
The app allows users to tap, hold, and record messages faster. Apple has replaced the previous hold gesture and swipe up to record voice messages with a new dictation button. In a related note, users can now view voicemails on OSiOS 16.
Privacy access history
In iOS 16, Apple is adding a good trick that allows users to check which apps have recently accessed their camera, microphone, location, and other sensitive sensors on their iPhone. The new view can be accessed by tapping the top of the Control Center shortly after an application has used access.
