Police have confirmed that a major fire that engulfed an abandoned pub in Leeds on Friday is understood to have been started deliberately.
West Yorkshire (WYP) police have registered a fire after the empty Sun Hotel was set on fire last night. Firefighters rushed to the scene at Church Street, Hunslet, around 9:30 p.m., and police closed the road as crews faced the blaze.
The fire was quickly brought under control, but has caused extensive damage to the old pub.

WYP is now asking for information and is looking forward to hearing from anyone who thinks it has seen someone acting suspiciously in the area shortly before the fire. A police spokesman said: “Police have registered a fire after a fire broke out in an abandoned building in the Hunslet area of Leeds.
“Officers were informed of a fire in a building on Church Street, Hunslet, shortly before 9.30pm yesterday (Friday, June 10). suspiciously, they are asked to contact the police via 101. Live chat or by calling 101, citing the crime reference 13220314266. “
