Calvin Ramsay is expected to be confirmed as Liverpool’s third senior signing of the summer, and his coach as Aberdeen has said the Reds are “very lucky” to get the teenager.
Liverpool are set to tie a £ 6.5m deal for the 18-year-old right-back, with a medical examination and final details, all as an official announcement.
Ramsay arrives with many admirers and did not fall short of suitors before declaring Liverpool as his favorite destination, with a role as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s assistant waiting.
The Scot made 33 appearances for Aberdeen last season with a return of nine goals and an assist in 33 appearances, showing his attacking and stoppage skills.
And while he may be an unknown figure to some, he is highly valued by Aberdeen coach Jim Goodwin, who only took the helm in February, but has seen enough to know that the Reds should feeling “very lucky.”
“It’s a very exciting opportunity for Calvin and his family, no doubt,” Goodwin told Sky Sports about Ramsay’s impending move.
“I think the Aberdeen Academy staff deserves a lot of credit for developing Calvin and giving the first team a chance.
“To be honest, he’s not a person for whom I can accept a lot of credit. He was on the team before I came here.
“Liverpool are very lucky if this agreement is reached, as they are looking for a very exciting young talent who won the Young Player of the Year award last year here in Scotland.
“We certainly had high hopes for Calvin and he will definitely be growing in a very good Liverpool team.
“When you look at the way Liverpool play, with very offensive and offensive sides, another Scottish player is Andy Robertson coming up on the left flank and Trent Alexander on the right side.
“They are very offensive right and left wingers. This is what Calvin will bring.
“His statistics in the first half of the season, for those who care about the data that we all know are an important part of the modern game, Calvin was among the best sides in the world.
“That’s why he got on the radar of Liverpool and other big clubs as well. Liverpool will have a very good player.
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the finished article you’d expect at 18 years old. It has a lot of room for improvement and much remains to be done.
“But he is a good character; a very good boy and if the deal is finally made, he will leave here with everyone’s best wishes. “
Liverpool certainly have another young and exciting talent in their hands.
