OC Transpo has shut down most of Ottawa’s light rail line due to what it calls a technical issue. Its CEO says lightning may have damaged the aerial power system.
The transit service announced Monday morning that R1 buses will operate instead of trains between St-Laurent and Tunney’s Pasture stations.
ONGOING, Line 1: Service R1 implemented between Tunney’s Pasture and St-Laurent due to a technical problem. There are no trains between Hurdman and Tunney’s Pasture. Service to Tremblay is on the eastbound platform only. Updates to follow.

Transit CEO Renée Amilcar said in an email that technicians are working on the problem and would send an update on when full service might return.
Over the weekend, the transit service also pulled several trains from service due to wheel problems. The track and wheel issues emerged during the public inquiry into the nearly three-year-old rail line earlier this summer.
