Lionesses make first public appearance after team reached Euro 2022 final

England’s women’s football team have made their first public appearance since their 4-0 Euro 2022 semi-final win over Sweden.

There was a wave of joy from the Lionesses as they appeared outside their London hotel after the match that put them in the final.

“We want to inspire the nation. I think that’s what we’re doing,” said head coach Sarina Wiegman, who will lead her players to Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

“And we want to make a difference, so hopefully we’ll all be so excited and at the end of the day the whole country will be proud of us and even more girls and boys will start playing football.”

England will now face either Germany or France, who play in Milton Keynes on Wednesday.

It is the first time since 2009 that the Lionesses have reached a grand final.

They have never won a World or European trophy in their history.

Goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby secured the famous victory against Sweden, which sparked celebrations across the country.

England men’s captain Harry Kane tweeted: “Yes @Lionesses! Bring on the final.”

England’s all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney wrote: “What a performance from the @Lionesses tonight. A well deserved #WEURO2022 final coming up. Congratulations to all players and staff.”

Prince William, president of the Football Association, tweeted: “Congratulations @Lionesses for reaching the final of #WEURO2022 on Sunday.

“The whole country is so proud of all you are accomplishing. We believe in you and will be with you all the way! W.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson also congratulated the team, tweeting a flag emoji and adding: “At Wembley!

“Fantastic result for captain @leahcwilliamson and the @Lionesses tonight against Sweden. Come on England, bring it home.”

And the Lionesses’ own Twitter account posted: “SEE YOU AT WEMBLEY.”
