A section of the M56 near Manchester Airport has been completely closed this morning due to a vehicle fire.
All lanes are currently closed on the eastbound road between junction seven for Bowdon and junction six for Wilmslow Road. A lane has also been closed on the westbound road, according to Transport for Greater Manchester.
Drivers are asked to find a different route. The delays are piling up in the incident with images traffic queues on highway cameras.

A tweet posted by TfGM read: “M56 between J7 and J6. All lanes are closed to the east.
“A closed lane traveling west. This is due to a vehicle fire.
“Find an alternative route and allow more time for your trip. Follow @HighwaysNWEST for updates.”
Highways England said: “The # M56 is closed eastbound between J7 and J6 near #Manchester Airport due to a vehicle fire. More details below.”
