Live Platinum Jubilee Live: Queen misses Epsom Derby, but could finally meet Lilibet

The Queen’s “cheeky” sense of humor was praised by the Australian winners of the year, after she spoke to the six Zoom Award winners.

The Zoom convocation, which took place on May 9 but was made public today, began with the Governor-General of Australia, David Hurley, who reminded the monarch that it had been 34 years since he had opened the Parliament in Canberra.

The building has a water fountain known as the Pool of Reflection, which the queen recalled: “I was very intrigued by that little pond inside. I wondered how many people had fallen into it.”

One of the winners was Dr Daniel Nour, 25, who won Young Australian of the Year for his work in mobile medical services.

He said the queen had a “cheeky smile … and she was so real and so charming.”
