Live updates as a huge building fire breaks out on the busy Derby Road

A large fire broke out this morning and affected two industrial estate buildings on a busy Derby road. Six firefighters were at the scene on London Road, with two airstrip platforms also assisting when the fire first broke out around 4.30am on Sunday (June 12th).

The road was initially cut off at its intersections with Ascot Drive and Raynesway while firefighters were working to put out the blaze, and people were advised to avoid the area. The fire appears to have affected the car tire navigation and car wash service and the Opulent Motors garage next door.

In a Twitter update at 5.30am, the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “@DerbyshireFRS is currently dealing with a large fire on London Road in the Wilmorton area. We have 6 aircraft and 2 stair platforms. The road has been closed. Please avoid the area. “

At around 11am, the closure had been reduced, but the road is currently closed from the junction of London Road with Alvaston Park to Ascot Drive, as firefighters continue to work on the scene before the ‘initiate a police investigation to establish the cause of the fire.
