A major road in the city is closed this afternoon after a “serious collision”. The incident is believed to have involved a pedestrian and a car, and images taken by BirminghamLive show a blue tent at the scene.
Coventry Road in Small Heath was closed by police around 3pm after emergency services rushed to the scene. West Midlands police said the road between Small Heath Highway and Tennyson Road would likely remain closed for several hours while it conducts investigations.
A West Midlands police spokesman said: “We closed Coventry Road, Small Heath, after a serious collision between a pedestrian and a car at around 3pm today. between Small Heath Highway and Tennyson Road remain closed for a number of hours while we make inquiries. “
West Express West Midlands said: “Due to a collision on Coventry Road, near Oldknow Road, service 60 is being diverted by Small Heath Bypass and Golden Hillock Road in both directions. With the additional delay at Sheldon, we can expect delays in service 60 this afternoon. “
The Inrix traffic management system added: “Coventry Road is closed in both directions [with] very slow traffic due to accident investigation work between Tennyson Road and A45 Small Heath Highway. The road will probably be closed for the whole afternoon. “
A West Midlands Fire Department spokesman confirmed that firefighters did not attend. The West Midlands Ambulance Service has been contacted for a response.
