Iz Truss has been heavily criticized by ministers as unrest in the party reaches boiling point.

As the party finds itself embroiled in civil war after the humiliating U-turn on plans to scrap the 45p rate of income tax. of older people, a minister has declared that the party is “in a horrible mess”.

“It could have started with a desire to be ideological and true to its free market, buccaneer beliefs but reality bites,” another cabinet minister told The Times.

“She needs to recognize the world we live in rather than the world they would like. We are a mainstream centre-right party, not a far-right sect.”

Although Mrs Truss and the chancellor are sticking to their pledge to boost growth in the UK, some believe the government could soon collapse.

While Ms Truss will try to curry favor with rebel MPs when they return this week, one former minister said: “There will be a higher level of organisation.

“The most likely outcome is a leakage of power, leading to a collapse in four to eight months.”

Even one MP who supports Ms Truss said her reign was the “worst self-inflicted political disaster of my life”.

They said: “He has only lost two groups in the last few weeks. The problem is they are the parliamentary party and the country. It is the worst self-inflicted political disaster of my life.

“Earlier I was sure to win my seat. Now it’s no better than par.

“Some colleagues who now think they have a chance of losing are wondering if it’s worth fighting or just start looking for other jobs now.”

It comes after Mrs Truss sacked a minister over allegations of “serious misconduct”.

Conor Burns had his whip suspended after complaints about his behavior at a meeting in Birmingham this week.

A No 10 spokesman said: “Following an allegation of serious misconduct, the Prime Minister has asked Conor Burns MP to leave the government with immediate effect.”

Separately, a poll has shown the Tories have fallen 37 points behind Labor in London, according to new analysis which suggests all of their MPs in the city would be at risk of general election defeat.

Survation’s MRP poll for campaign group 38 Degrees put Labor on 59% in the capital, the Tories on 22% and the Lib-Dems on 13%.

Analysis by Survation found the Conservatives would lose their 21 London seats if the results were repeated at the next general election due in 2024. Labor would gain 23 and hold every seat in the capital except Twickenham, which would continue being Lib-Dem.
