Canada, along with Dawson Mercer of Newfoundland and Labrador, are heading for the gold medal at the World Hockey Championships in Finland.

Canada scored three goals in the second period to retire and defeat the Czech Republic, the former Czech Republic, 6-1 in today’s semi-final match.

This means that, for the first time, the same two teams, Canada and their hometown, Fins, will face off in the match for the gold medal three years in a row.

Finland won in 2019 and Canada won last year, preparing for the rubber match on Sunday.

Mercer, who had an assist in the victory over the Czech Republic, now has five points, all assists, in the tournament.

The gold medal game is scheduled for 2:50 p.m., Newfoundland time, on TSN.
