Government officials are asking cabin owners in central Newfoundland to stay off logging roads to check on their properties as officials continue to monitor and address wildfires in the region.
The states of emergency established in the central area and the Connaigre peninsula were officially lifted from midnight last night.
Forestry Minister Derrick Bragg says while conditions have improved, the fires could flare up again at any time.
Bragg says logging roads in the area should remain open for ground crews, but they’re asking residents and property owners to stay out of the area.
He says it was easier to police the forest roads when the Espoir Bay Hwy was closed, but now that the main road has reopened, they have police and others monitoring the access points to make sure people “stay away”.
