Every year the Lollapalooza festival fills the city with young life. Now the oldest music festival and one of the best in the United States, looking down from any of the nearby buildings makes Grant Park almost seem like it’s buzzing with energy.
Young people flock to Chicago for Lollapalooza weekend eager for new experiences. It’s often their first adventure with their friends to be a part of something bigger for the first time, and yet, somewhere in that sea of people, it’s often where they begin to discover more about themselves as individual For some it may be the place where they realize they are not ready to be alone, while for others it will be the place where they find the confidence to finally take the next step into adulthood. And still others…well…some just want to be fucked.
And, of course, it will take days for the Department of Streets and Health to wash away the regrets from Balbo and Columbus Drives, and those of us with experience know that there will be countless leftover regrets that will hang in the air and follow them all. life, but well, were we young once? Sooner or later, we all have to learn that moments are fleeting but memories are forever.
The following are NOT their stories. If we had to describe every incident of stupidity at Lollapalooza, our servers would explode, and frankly, we can’t afford it.
No, the following stories are the stories of the people who were shot and/or killed by the rest of the town while little Jack and Jill were learning that drugs, alcohol, hot sun, and overwhelming crowds they don’t mix. good together

The first notable incident was the one we highlighted about a woman who caught a group breaking into her car in Hyde Park. Someone in the group threatened the woman with a gun, and the woman, herself a holder of a concealed carry license, drew her own gun and shot one of the criminals in the group who was trying to get into her car. That criminal was 13 years old. You can read more here:

Also, a Friday night shooting disrupted one woman’s dinner reservations:
There is a woman on the scene who was waiting to eat at the restaurant who is very upset because the police are investigating a shooting at this restaurant. When staff and police told her there was a similar restaurant nearby, she exclaimed “they’re not good”. #Chicago #ChicagoScanner

The first homicide of the weekend didn’t happen until 1:10 a.m. Saturday in the 2000 block of W. 87th Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the city’s west side.
Two male and female victims were driving through the Upper Island when a black sedan pulled up to them at a stoplight. Police said two unknown assailants fired about 40 rounds at the vehicle, hitting the three victims.
- Victim #1: A 31-year-old man was shot in the head. pronounced dead
- Victim no. 2: 25-year-old woman who was shot several times throughout her body. Critical condition.
- Victim number 3: 22-year-old man also with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso area. Critical condition.

The second homicide came a short time later, around 1:40 a.m. in the 1800 block of N. Milwaukee in Logan Square.

Around 11:40 a.m. Saturday, Illinois State Police were called to Bishop Ford Highway near 130th Street in response to a shooting. Upon arrival, ISP found a 27-year-old man inside a wrecked vehicle on the road. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital but he died from his injuries. In the initial investigation, it was unclear whether the man died as a result of his injuries from the shooting or the car crash. Or both.

Shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday, two people were in a vehicle stopped at a red light in the 4700 block of S. Kedzie in the Brighton Park area when shots were fired at their car by an unknown person or from an unknown person to another vehicle. A 16-year-old male, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was struck in the head by the fire and continued to drive about a block before losing control and crashing into a tree. The teenager was taken to Mount Sinai where he died from his injury. There was also a 19-year-old girl in the car who was taken to Sant Antoni in good condition with a head wound.
Shortly after, around 2:52 a.m. in the 13100 block of S. Ellis in the Riverdale area, two victims were standing in a parking lot when shots were fired. The Chicago Fire Department took a 21-year-old man to Christ Hospital in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He later died from his injuries. A 25-year-old man was also taken to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right arm.

Shortly before 6:00 a.m. Sunday, an unidentified man (John Doe) was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to his body near an alley in the 6900 block of S. Talman in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The final homicide of the weekend (for now), happened around 10:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of W. 83rd Street. in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.
Police said a 43-year-old male victim was in a vehicle traveling westbound when an unknown offender began shooting in his direction. The vehicle was stopped and the victim was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to Christ Hospital, where he was initially in a critical condition, but later died from his injuries.
