A pensioner has denied today (June 1) that he caused the death of a five-month-old baby by careless driving in a Cambridgeshire court. Shelagh Robertson, 74, is accused of causing the death of Louis Thorold by careless driving following an accident on the A10 at Waterbeach on January 22 last year.
Baby Louis was in a pram being pushed by his mother when he died. Rachael and Chris Thorold, the baby’s parents, sat in the public gallery of Cambridge Crown Court in today’s hearing. Rachael was seriously injured in the crash.
Robertson of Stables Yard, Waterbeach, was wearing a black blazer jacket, black pants and a gray top, as well as a silver watch and dark purple shoes when he presented his statement to Judge Mark Bishop. He spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the basic lawsuits, apart from pleading not guilty to a single charge of the death of the baby due to careless driving.

He was said to be driving a Mazda 2 on the A10 at the intersection with Car Dyke Road.
The case will now go to trial, with the date set as August 8, 2022. Robertson was granted an unconditional bail.
