Luke Shaw believes Manchester United have already made a “big improvement” with new coach Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils have made a very impressive start to the pre-season with the Dutchman, achieving convincing victories against Liverpool and Melbourne Victory.
And Shaw believes there have already been positive signs, as the team is looking to recover from its disastrous 2021-22 campaign when it finished sixth.
Manchester United have scored four goals in both pre-season games so far
Luke Shaw is pleased with how the team has started the preseason with Erik ten Hag
“We can no longer be satisfied with how the team had gone,” Shaw said on Manchester United’s official website.
“It’s not where the club should be and we know the levels have had to take a massive step in terms of the highest intensity and what we’re supposed to do and I think from the start of the two last few weeks, especially in training, is definitely a big improvement.
“Even in games, I think you might see things you probably haven’t seen before, so I think there are things to look forward to.
“The coach knows what the team needs, he has his own style and how he wants to manage and all the players have taken on a lot.”
Shaw has played with seven different coaches at Old Trafford, including interim coaches.
He has revealed that Ten Hag likes to have his say in training and that he is not afraid to call players if they do not meet his standards.
“He’s very practical and does a lot of sessions. He gets very involved and if he sees people not reaching the standards he wants in training, he’ll make sure they know.
Shaw has revealed that Ten Hag likes to take a “hands-on” approach to training sessions
“I think that’s good, because it keeps the standards high. There’s still a lot to come from us and that’s just the beginning,” Shaw added.
Shaw endured a tough 2021-22 season as he only played in 20 league games due to a combination of injury and loss of form.
He has admitted he was frustrated with how he developed his campaign, but is now looking forward to making a “fresh start” under the Ten Hag.
He continued: “Last season was very disappointing, not only as a team, but also individually for me.
“It wasn’t what people expect or what I expect and I think this season is another fresh start.
“Now is the time to stay consistent and maintain higher levels of performance week after week that I’ve already talked to the manager about and that’s what he wants.”
