Gray, best known for her hit 1999 song “I Try,” seemed to anticipate the reaction during an appearance aired Monday on Fox Nation’s “Piers Morgan Uncensored.”
“I’ll say this and everyone will hate me, but as a woman, just because you change your (body) parts, you don’t become a woman, I’m sorry,” Gray said after Morgan raised the issue of trans athletes in the sports. .
“Hey, are you sorry?” Morgan replied.
“I know for sure,” Gray replied.
“Being a girl is an epic book, you know? And you can’t have it just because you want to be a woman,” she told Morgan, and then added, “I don’t think they should label you transphobic just because they don’t. Do you agree”.
Similarly, Midler sparked controversy when he tweeted Monday: “WOMEN OF THE WORLD! They are taking away our rights over our bodies, our lives and even our name!”
“They no longer call us’ women ‘; they call us’ parturients’ or’ menstruators, and even ‘people with vaginas’!”, Says her tweet. “Don’t let them erase you! All the humans on earth owe you!”
Both comments did not go well.
“What has the‘ feminine ’that TERFs (a term defined as feminist that excludes the rights of transgender women from their advocacy for women’s rights) like Macy Gray and Bette Midler are so desperate to cling to? ” wrote writer Arielle Tschinkel. “The existence of trans women doesn’t make me a woman any less, no matter how different our experiences are. Honestly, it’s ridiculous.”
