Electricity has been restored to homes in Perth following a major power outage in WA that left more than 11,000 homes without electricity on Saturday shortly before noon.

Western Power reported that 25 suburbs in the metropolitan area had been affected by the huge disruption that occurred shortly before noon, but that it restored electricity to the entire house around 2 p.m.

This major blackout comes just days after Mark McGowan announced that Collie’s state-owned coal-fired power plants will be shut down by the end of the decade, and said WA had avoided the recent instability in power supply on the East Coast. partly because of its domestic gas. reservation policy.

However, the announcement received a lot of criticism, as Western Australians expressed concern about major disruptions without these stable supplies.

WA Liberal leader and shadow energy minister David Honey also said more details were needed before Western Australians could be sure to avoid mass blackouts in the coming years.

“The concern about their announcement around Collie is whether they can continue to provide stable power supplies to the people of Western Australia once Collie’s coal-fired power plants are shut down,” Honey said.

“These power plants obviously don’t work all the time, but they provide critical power when the system is in maximum load condition and is in demand.”
