Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Crawley

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was attacked with a gun.

Officers were called to Chanctonbury Way, Crawley, shortly after 10pm on Wednesday 1 June, following reports of a woman who had suffered serious head injuries.

Police said the injuries were from a gunshot wound.

The injured woman was taken to hospital by ambulance service.

Police officers attended and a suspect, a 30-year-old man from Crawley, was identified.

He was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

He has been released on bail while investigations continue.

Detective James Reilly said: “We understand that incidents like this are worrisome, but I would like to reassure the public that there seems to be an isolated incident without a wider risk of harm.

“There has been an increase in police presence in the area in recent days while forensic investigations are being carried out and we thank the public for their patience and understanding.

“Anyone who witnessed Wednesday’s incident or has information that could help with the investigation is asked to contact police online or via 101, citing Operation Clifford.”
