Man charged under Treason Act after crossbow arrest in Windsor

A man caught in the grounds of Windsor Castle with a crossbow on Christmas Day has been charged under the 180-year-old Treason Act.

Jaswant Singh Chail, 20, allegedly scaled the walls to attack the queen. Chail, from a village near Southampton, was charged yesterday under section 2 of the Treason Act 1842, which includes “discharging or aiming fire-arms, or throwing or using any offensive material or weapon, with the intent to injure or alarm His Majesty.”

He has also been charged with making death threats and having an offensive weapon. Chail is in custody and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 17.
