Man charged with murder after alleged hit-and-run in Mount Isa, north-west Queensland

A 52-year-old Mount Isa man has been charged with murder after an alleged hit-and-run killed a teenager in the north-west Queensland community of Mount Isa in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Delacour Drive and Dent Street in Pioneer just after midnight to treat a woman with critical head injuries.

Police confirmed he succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.

The man will appear at Mount Isa Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 8.

Police are working to formally identify the victim and are speaking with several families in the community.

“I can assure the community that we are taking this matter very seriously and are investigating it intensively,” said Detective Inspector Dave Barron.

“Our sympathies go out to the family and community who are grieving … at this time.”

This is the second alleged hit-and-run that has occurred in Mount Isa in two days.

Two pedestrians were hospitalized in stable condition after being hit by a stolen vehicle in the early hours of Friday, August 5.
