An investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed by police in Nanaimo.
On Saturday around 2 p.m., several RCMP officers responded to the 800 block of Haliburton Street, near Highview Terrace, following reports that a man and a woman were fighting next to a vehicle that it was parked on the street.
Once officers arrived at the scene, the man pulled out a gun, according to the Nanaimo RCMP.
“The police fired shots and the man was injured. BC Emergency Medical Services attended, but despite all efforts, the man died at the scene,” Nanaimo RCMP said in a statement issued Sunday.
As a result of the incident, there were no other injuries.
The British Columbia Office of Independent Investigations is now investigating the incident. The area has been cordoned off for an undetermined amount of time as the investigation continues.
The men say that the man and the women knew each other.
