Manchester United are still chasing more signings before the transfer window closes next week, with manager Erik ten Hag tipped to bring Antony in from his former club Ajax. And Express Sport takes a look at the intimidating XI the Red Devils could line up with should they secure the signature of the Brazil international and three other players.
Goalkeeper – De Gea
United are said to be ready to sign Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and have offered to double his wages and hand him a four-year contract at Old Trafford. But the 32-year-old Germany international would start his United career as David de Gea’s replacement.
This follows the departure of Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan. So De Gea would keep his place between the sticks, but he would need to eliminate mistakes to keep Trapp out of the team.
Defense – Dalot, Varane, MartÃnez, Malacia
Ten Hag have already changed their defense this season after signing Lisandro Martinez from Ajax and Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. Martinez has started all three of his side’s games this season and could continue to partner Raphael Varane in the center of defense after Harry Maguire was dropped for the Red Devils’ win over Liverpool on Monday night.
Malacia made his first start in United colors against Jurgen Klopp’s side after Luke Shaw was dropped following his side’s thrashing at the hands of Brentford. And Malacia will be confident of keeping their place after a decent performance against the Merseyside club.
A midfield of Casemiro and De Jong, with Bruno Fernandes providing the ammunition behind the front three, could completely revolutionize Ten Hag’s side as they look to secure a place in the Premier League’s top four.
Forwards: Antony, Rashford, Sancho
Antony’s arrival at Old Trafford would almost certainly pave the way for Cristiano Ronaldo to leave the club. And the exciting winger would be an instant name on the team sheet, with his forwardness in goal desperately needed in the North West.
The 22-year-old could join Jadon Sancho in United’s attack, with Marcus Rashford leading the line as he looks to return to his best. Anthony Martial would then be one of the main options from the bench.
