Men beaten with bricks in “assassination attempt” outside the bar

Three men were beaten with bricks, kicked and punched in a brutal attack outside a bar.

Police rushed to the intersection of Deansgate and Peter Street in Manchester on Monday 13 June, after three men were reportedly found injured. The men are believed to have been involved in a verbal altercation with two men who did not know them at a bar.

After that, the three victims befriended a stranger and his girlfriend, who are believed to be from Merseyside. Shortly before 2:15 a.m., the victims left the authorized premises.

Immediately after leaving, a suspect, hiding in a doorway, was picked up by a black Nissan Qashqai driving on Peter Street before turning right onto Jerusalem Place. The two people in the car got out and attacked the victims with bricks for about a minute.

The suspects returned to the vehicle and left downtown via Bootle Street, Deansgate and Quay Street. The victims were rushed to hospital with serious head injuries, where two remain for treatment.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Paddy Connell of GMP’s Manchester City CID Division said: “I can’t express the seriousness of this attack: the victims were hit with a brick many times in the head before being punched. As we continue our research, we wish you a speedy recovery.

“It is essential that we identify all those involved in order to bring those responsible to justice. We are now in a position to ask the public for help in identifying the man in the image, with whom we would like to talk about the incident.

“We’re also calling for anyone with information, whether it’s a verbal account or CCTV footage or a script camera, to contact us. Finally, we’re calling for the unknown man and his girlfriend to show up.

“We have reason to believe they are from Merseyside. I would like to emphasize that they are not suspicious of this investigation, but we believe they may have vital information that can help us.”

Anyone with information should contact 0161 856 9272 by quoting 273 13/06/22 or gmp.police.uk. Information can also be shared through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
