Men face charges of drugs and firearms during an 18-hour siege of the Gold Coast

Two men accused of an 18-hour siege of the Gold Coast have their case brought before the Southport Magistrates’ Court.

Tyson James Finney, 25, and Chase John Haskwell, 32, are accused of provoking an armed confrontation with police after being barricaded inside a Nerang home on Wednesday.

Finney has been charged with three counts of unauthorized possession of drugs, three counts of possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a shortened firearm and possession of explosives. [ammunition]theft, receipt of contaminated property and armed robbery.

Haskwell faces multiple charges, including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of a shortened firearm and drug offenses, malicious damage, theft, receipt of contaminated property, and armed robbery.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck.

They turned themselves in to specialized police shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday.

The couple were allegedly wanted with a return order and had been on the run for about two weeks after one of the men cut off a GPS tracking device.

The charges also relate to an alleged armed robbery in Helensvale last week.

Four other people were at the house at the time, but left after police went to look for the men on Wednesday.

The declaration of emergency forced some residents to sleep in their car at night, while others were told to stay inside during the negotiations.

The couple remains in custody with the case that will return to court on July 26.

The siege was one of a series of incidents on the Gold Coast last week.

On Saturday, a man was shot by a bullet in a random shooting in Coolangatta.

Police are investigating whether the facts are related.
