Metavers: Mark Zuckerberg shows prototypes of virtual reality hats

For a long time, Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg has been a strong supporter of the virtual reality (VR) segment and even changed the name of his corporate company to Meta, to drive work on his metavers virtual reality platform.

Zuckerberg sees great potential in virtual reality not only in games but also in education. Responding to a fan post on Monday (June 20) video on Facebook, he said he would not have dropped out of college halfway through classes with virtual reality headsets.

Zuckerberg, in the short video byte posted on Facebook, gave fans and tech enthusiasts a glimpse of the company’s four advanced virtual reality prototypes. And, he gave some ideas on what challenges the company’s Reality Labs division faces and how it is being resolved.

The new virtual reality hat test model codenamed butterscotch is capable of supporting a “retina resolution” of 60 pixels per degree and allows users to comfortably read the smallest of characters on an eye test chart.

The second challenge is focal length, Reality Labs engineers are testing models to allow users to see objects clearly, regardless of the distance or near the eyes in the VR cap.

This problem has been solved with a Varifocal function and eye tracking technology, which offers a comprehensive 3D vision.

As we move toward the metavers, we are researching how to develop a virtual reality display system where what you see in your headphones is as vivid and detailed as the physical world. Mark Zuckerberg just shared the details here pic.twitter.com/toxEcYABT8

Meta Reality Labs is also working on optimizing software to control optical distortion.

In addition, to provide HDR (High Dynamic Range) and ensure that objects such as flora and fauna look rich in color, Reality Labs has developed a prototype named Starburst, the first HDR VR system.

These technologies promise that the things we see in virtual space through virtual reality headsets look as natural as we see with our eyes in the real world.

The company has also developed a running Holocake 2 prototype, which has been incorporated with the latest AR / VR technology that can overcome the challenges mentioned above, but needs more testing.

“Showing new prototypes of virtual reality screens as part of our research to make metavers as realistic as the physical world. We need to solve challenges with retinal resolution, multiple focal depths, high dynamic range and more, and then fit all this technology into the devices. lighter / thinner than anything that exists. We have the best equipment in the world working on all these issues, “said Zuckerberg.

Meta’s advancement in VR headset technology looks promising. But there is no official word on when we will be able to see the commercial variant on store shelves.
