Michael Jackson’s ex-wife has shockingly hinted that she was partly to blame for his death.
In a US documentary, 63-year-old Debbie Rowe cries as she says she could have done more when she got hooked on painkillers, The US Sun reported.
In one clip he said: “I should have done something and I didn’t.
“There are a number of people who died from addiction and in a way I was part of it.”
Thriller singer Jackson died of cardiac arrest in June 2009 with enough of the sedative propofol in his system to suffocate a rhinoceros, former LAPD coroner Ed Winter said in the documentary.
Rowe married Jackson in 1996 and was a surrogate mother to children Prince and Paris.
He was an assistant to dermatologist Arnold Klein, who died in 2015. He distributed strong painkillers to Jackson and others.
Rowe says on next week’s Fox TV special, “I was basically as bad as he (Klein) was, and I’m sorry I was a part of it.”
Rowe declined to discuss Jackson specifically in the documentary, choosing instead to focus on Klein, also known as the Father of Botox.
But for decades she has spoken to the media about being Jackson’s nurse and Klein’s assistant while treating the musician.
During a civil trial over Jackson’s death in 2013, he blamed his former boss for fueling Jackson’s drug habit.
Klein, who was also known for treating other stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, died aged 70 in California in 2015.
Rowe’s relationship with Michael was shrouded in secrecy.
Only a few people attended their unusual wedding, which took place at the Sheraton on the Park Hotel on November 13, 1996, while Jackson was on tour for his “HIStory” album.
Surprisingly, Rowe wore a non-traditional black wedding dress.
The secrecy surrounding the wedding was so intense that it was neither confirmed nor denied after it happened.
Staff at the Sheraton swore Jackson had never even left his room, the Irish Times reported.
The former couple first met 15 years before their marriage when Michael was receiving treatment for a skin condition.
Rowe is understood to have comforted Jackson after his split with Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie, and the pair became close friends.
She has spoken candidly in the past about how the whirlwind marriage came about so they could have a family, with Michael a far more willing father than she was.
In a 2003 TV special called Michael Jackson: The Footage You Were Never Meant To See, Rowe said, “I did it because I was a father, not because I was a mother.
“You earn the title of father. I did absolutely nothing to earn that title. That’s because Michael did all the parenting.
“I didn’t do it to be a mother. I didn’t change the diapers. I didn’t get up in the middle of the night, even when I was there, Michael did everything.”
