Microsoft today announced the next Surface device; the Surface Laptop Go 2. Based on the 2020 Surface Laptop Go, it promises to be a smaller laptop with enough power and performance to comfortably carry you through a day of work while staying as mobile as possible.

Microsoft introduces the Surface Laptop Go 2 with a talk on “allowing mobility for the flexible workplace,” which sets this laptop as the smallest laptop designed to work on it. An installation further emphasized by the mentions of hot sunset and trips to conference rooms.
Unfortunately, this is not a consumer version of the Surface Laptop SE for the education market; The specifications of the Laptop Go 2 show that it is aimed at the top of the wallet with a touch screen, 11th generation Intel Core chipsets and up to 16GB of memory with 128GB or 256GB of storage backups.
Microsoft also offers Laptop Go 2 to both consumers and businesses. Business models only include the 16GB RAM option and offer Windows 10 Pro or Windows 11 Pro; consumers can only buy the Go 2 with Windows 11 Home.
The first Surface Laptop Go brought the Surface minimalist design language to a smaller form factor, but it had some weaknesses. It keeps the screen smaller, with a resolution of only 1536 x 1024 pixels. This smart chip is the next generation compared to the original Laptop Go, but it is still a generation behind the current market standard. Microsoft has highlighted the improved thermal performance of the Go 2, which I hope to see in the future because the original Laptop Go warmed up.
The Surface Laptop Go 2 is located in a space full of laptops. The starting price of $ 599 looks attractive, but that’s for a 4GB RAM / 128GB SSD model. Add $ 100 to get 8GB of usable memory and $ 100 more to increase storage to 256GB and you’re taking on some of the biggest names in the market.
It seems that Microsoft has decided much of the same commitments as the first Surface Laptop Go model, commitments that made this laptop lovely, but not a laptop that was a “must buy” model. I’m curious to see how the package has been updated and how it works in the real world.
