A man disguised as an old woman in a wheelchair has spread cake all over the Mona Lisa.
The video posted on social media shows a man covering the glass box of the painting with a cake while a shocked crowd contemplates the Louvre in Paris.
She appears to be wearing lipstick and a wig.
A witness wrote on social media that he jumped from a wheelchair before attempting to “shatter the bulletproof glass of the Mona Lisa.”
The person added that the man then smeared the cake on the glass before throwing “roses everywhere before being approached for safety.”
As he was escorted out of the building, he said to the spectators in French: “Think of the planet … there are people who are destroying the planet, think of it …
“All artists tell you to think about the planet, all artists think about the planet. That’s why I did it. “
The Mona Lisa, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the early 1500’s, is one of the most famous paintings in the world.
He is not believed to have been harmed in the incident.
