The first case of smallpox in Texas was reported in the city of Dallas yesterday.
The person goes to Dallas and returns home after a trip to Mexico. The Texas State Department of Health Services is working with the Dallas County Department of Human and Health Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working to further investigate the case, and the patient was so isolated. as soon as the diagnosis was made.
Public health officials have also claimed that people who traveled in a similar period of time from Mexico to Dallas to watch for symptoms and monitor themselves for signs of the disease.
Symptoms of monkeypox include fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, chills, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes.
The Texas DSHS reminded the population that monkeypox has not been considered a risk to the population so far and that with the follow-up and medical care most people with the disease get it out without further complications.
With this first case in Texas, there are now more than 35 different cases of monkeypox in the United States. There has been concern worldwide for a few months about the silent spread of the disease, with countries such as the United Kingdom reporting 302 cases and a total of 1,000 cases worldwide.
The World Health Organization has assured people that we are unlikely to be watching another pandemic like the one of 2019. For once, the disease is much harder to spread than COVID-19. It can only be transmitted to humans through close contact, inhalation of large respiratory drops, or close contact with body fluids.
On the other hand, it is much less dangerous than COVID-19. Most people who suffer from it will have symptoms, but there is rarely anything to worry about and it leaves the body a few weeks after the infection. Although there is no prescription drug for this, many health officials believe that smallpox vaccines already exist could be effective.
However, it is important to implement what we have learned over the past 3 years and to isolate when we are at potential risk of contamination or experiencing symptoms. It is also recommended that you receive immediate medical attention if you experience any symptoms that may be related to monkeypox.
