Ontario MP Adam van Koeverden has apologized for cursing a Canadian living abroad who described the former Olympics as “a Canadian’s shame” for the way he dealt with his concerns about vaccine warrants.
“Last week, I let my emotions take over and I unacceptably responded to a direct message, and I’m sorry,” van Koeverden, who represents Milton for the Liberals, told the networks. social. publication.
“I want to apologize to the person I offended with the message and to anyone else who has disappointed me.”
Kate Faith, a schoolteacher in Brantford, Ont. who lives in New Zealand, told CBC News she is not vaccinated. She said she decided not to get vaccinated because she feared she might experience a reaction, and due to travel restrictions, her family would not be able to visit her in New Zealand if she became ill.
Faith said vaccination warrants requiring all passengers coming to Canada to be fully vaccinated prevent her from embarking on a flight to Canada to visit her parents or attend important family events.
“Last year my grandfather died and I had to watch his funeral on FaceTime and right now my uncle is sick and they don’t let me go home to see him,” he said.

Faith told CBC News that she was fired from her job as a teacher in November because of her vaccination status. He said he resumed teaching in April when vaccine mandates were withdrawn in New Zealand.
He said he wrote to all Liberal and NDP MPs expressing frustration over the length of Canada’s vaccine terms, but none responded. He said he started contacting MPs on Instagram, but only one MP responded.
In a tense Instagram exchange with van Koeverden, he asked parliamentarians why vaccine warrants are still in place and suggested it had to do with “corruption and parliamentarians not doing the right thing.”

“Well, it sounds a lot smarter than the epidemiologists I’m talking to. I’m sorry I answered,” said van Koeverden, who is the parliamentary secretary to the health minister.
Faith told van Koeverden that she is a 29-year-old who had COVID two months ago and asked why she was not allowed to fly.
“Not here to tell you Kate, later,” van Koeverden replied.
Faith pressured van Koeverden to obtain evidence supporting vaccine warrants and described the MP as “a disgrace to a Canadian”.
“F – k you,” replied van Koeverden.

The MP added that “a mistake had been made in responding to someone like you” and wished Faith “good luck”.
“He wasn’t receptive and he was quite condescending, he just said I’m not a scientist, but he’s not either,” he said. “He just took it all out and said he was justified and I told you why I called his behavior negative.”
Van Koeverden said in his Twitter post that he realizes that the last two years have been exceptionally difficult for everyone.
“In the future I will work to be more patient and behave with the high level that people deserve from their elected representatives,” he said in his apology.
Deputies must hear: Lantsman
Faith said she also contacted a small number of Conservative MPs and received answers from Toronto Conservative MP Melissa Lantsman and Conservative leadership candidate Leslyn Lewis.
Lantsman, who has called for an end to vaccination warrants, personally responded to Faith about her concerns.
“We told her we were working to reunite her with her family,” Lantsman told CBC News.
Lantsman said that while being a MP is a difficult job and it can be difficult not to lose your temper, people need to know that MPs are listening to them about their concerns.
Faith said she saw van Koeverden’s tweet backing out of her tongue and didn’t think it was genuine.
“I think it would be pretty cool and big of you to come to me and apologize. Otherwise, I think it’s just a word of mouth,” he said.
