Mud slip between Salmon Arm and Tappen, partially reopened road

UPDATE: 6:35 p.m.

Highway 1 north of Salmon Arm reopened to a single lane, alternating night traffic, and continues Saturday morning.

A landslide forced the highway to close on Friday night, but it partially reopened at around 11.30pm.

DriveBC warns of delays for motorists traveling in the area.

ORIGINAL: 8:45 p.m.

DriveBC reports that a mudslide between Tappen Beach Road and 65th Avenue NW closed Highway 1 on Friday evening.

The closure lasts approximately 2.6 km, two km east of Tappen to Salmon Arm.

There is a detour available on Highway 97B and Highway 97.

A traveler from the area told Castanet that traffic is very low since closing.

DriveBC expects to release an update at 10 p.m.
