PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Several people were shot dead and at least three people were killed during a violent Saturday and the start of Memorial Day in Philadelphia.
One of those shootings took place outside a funeral.
“I once thought I was a pretty strong old man, but now I think I’m a weak old man because there’s a lot of violence,” a West Oak Lane neighbor said.
The neighbor says there are so many shots that some elderly neighbors are afraid to leave.
“These days, it’s so dangerous out there that we don’t know what to expect,” the neighbor said.
Three people were shot outside the First Church of God and Haitian Prophecy just as a funeral was held Saturday morning.
Investigators say it was not a random shooting. The target, a 34-year-old man, was shot several times in the chest.
He died from his injuries at the hospital.
The stray bullets hit a 62-year-old woman in the hip and a 57-year-old woman in the arm as they left the funeral.
This shooting adds to the growing list of violent shootings in the city.
The city is now approaching 200 homicides so far this year.
A shooting on Block 3100 in Kensington on Saturday afternoon left another man dead and one woman injured.
Authorities say a 30-year-old man was shot several times on North 50th Street in West Philadelphia.
Police are still searching for suspects and motives in all these cases.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police.
