Bug-eyed beetle

Perhaps this is where the term “bug eyes” comes from.
Blair Carlson submitted today’s bug of the week, which spotted the critter at a Carolina reaper plant.
The mysterious beetle has two bulging eyes, long antennae, six legs, and is a sort of golden color.
An Internet search for “golden beetle with big eyes” turns up countless creepy crawlies, but none seem to match the beast seen in Vernon earlier this month.
However, the ivory-marked borer looks similar.
It may be a relative of the Banished Alder Borer featured earlier.
