NASA’s James Webb telescope makes the deepest image of the early universe

The James Webb telescope has taken the deepest images in the universe to date, showing galaxies billions of light-years away.

An amazing image taken by the recently launched James Webb Space Telescope takes us back to where the universe began. It is the most detailed snapshot of our universe to date.

The stunning deep image of the galaxies was revealed in a briefing at the White House by US President Joe Biden, showing the “deepest, sharpest infrared image of the early universe” ever taken.

Photons, which travel to the telescope for 13 billion years, are like a time machine and reveal what the universe was like 13 billion years ago.

The image, presented Monday at 5:30 p.m. (U.S. time), revealed thousands of galaxies and features the faintest objects ever observed, ranging in color from infrared to shades of blue, orange, and white.

It is also only a fraction of the observable universe and focuses on the SMACS 0723 galaxy cluster, with the photo taken over a 12.5-hour period.

The image is somewhat similar to the Hubble Space Telescope’s innovative observations: images of Hubble’s deep field and Hubble’s ultra-deep field.

“Mr. President, if you have a grain of sand on your fingertip with a long arm, this is the part of the universe you’re looking at, just a small part of the universe,” said NASA chief Bill Nelson.

“What you’re seeing are galaxies, galaxies that glow around other galaxies, whose lights have doubled, and you’re seeing only a small portion of the universe.”

The telescope is the newest and most powerful deep space telescope in the world, and it has allowed us to see the dawn of time closer than ever.

U.S. Vice President and President of the National Space Council, Kamala Harris, described the JWST telescope as “one of humanity’s great engineering achievements.”

“Today’s images are a testament to the incredible work done by the thousands of workers in our nation who spent years on this project,” he said.

“Revolutionizing” astronomy

Nelson also promised in the briefing that the image was just the first of many to come, with later images to look farther and deeper into space.

“That light you’re seeing in one of those little specs has been traveling for over 13 billion years,” he said.

“And let’s go further back: this is just the first image … we know the universe is 13.8 billion years old, we’ll almost go back to the beginning.”

Nelson said the telescope would not only help look at the first moments of the universe, but the accuracy and clarity of the telescope will favor the exploration of habitable planets.

“It will be so accurate that you will see if the planets, due to their chemical composition … are habitable or not.”

Harris said the telescope and its images represented a “new chapter in exploring our universe.”

“Since the beginning of history, humans have looked at the night sky with wonder,” he said.

“And thanks to dedicated people who have been working for decades in engineering and scientific wonders, we can look at the sky with a new understanding.

The JWS telescope was launched in December last year as a successor to the famous Hubble telescope.

The $ 13 billion project is a collaboration between NASA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency and will allow for more research on astronomy and cosmology.

Harris said the telescope and its images represented a “new chapter in exploring our universe.”

“Since the beginning of history, humans have looked at the night sky with wonder,” he said.

“And thanks to dedicated people who have been working for decades in engineering and scientific wonders, we can look at the sky with a new understanding.

“Building on Hubble’s legacy, the James Webb Space Telescope allows us to see space deeper than ever and with impressive clarity.

“It will allow us to improve what we know about the origin of our universe, our solar system, and possibly life itself.”

The Hubble Telescope is known for producing the iconic composite image of the Carina Nebula star nursery, famous for its tall pillars that include “Mystic Mountain,” a cosmic pinnacle three light-years high.

The past and future of the Earth

However, it is not just a vision of the past that scientists around the world are waiting for.

Biden said the “historic” project was also of immediate importance in shaping our understanding of the future of the Earth as a planet.

“It’s like being in a very dark room and you only have a small hole through which you can look,” he said about the previous technology.

But now, with the JWS telescope, “you’ve opened a huge window, you can see every little detail.”

Biden said the importance of the JWS telescope was proof of the importance of space exploration in understanding the very future of the Earth.

“It shows what we can achieve, what else we can discover not only about distant places but about our own planet and climate,” he said.

“That’s why the U.S. government needs to invest in science and technology, even more than we’ve done in the past.”

Biden also said the project was a testament to the strength of U.S. allies.

“Six and a half months ago, a rocket was launched carrying the world’s newest and most powerful deep space telescope on a journey of a million miles into the cosmos,” he added.

“And as an association with others, it symbolizes the relentless spirit of American ingenuity.”

a complete set of images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope will be released on July 12 and will include unprecedented views of distant galaxies, bright nebulae and a distant giant gas planet.

An international committee decided that the first wave of full-color scientific imagery would also include the Carina Nebula, a huge cloud of dust and gas 7,600 light-years away, as well as the southern ring nebula, which surrounds a dying star 2,000 light-years away.
