Google announced Fuchsia for Nest Hub Max last week, and those in the preview program are starting to receive it. The only change is the addition of a Bluetooth menu to the settings.
Nest Hub Max runs Fuchsia version 6.20211109.1.3166240 and you can check it from Settings> About Device. In the preview program, the first-generation Nest Hub also runs 6.2xxx, which was first launched in May and also introduced the app launcher to Google’s original smart display.
Back on the main settings page, you’ll see a new Bluetooth menu item showing previously paired devices in the Nest Hub Max. There are shortcuts for “Vinyl a new device” and “Use screen as Bluetooth speaker”. This is much more convenient than having to use the Google Home app to establish the connection.
First Generation Nest Hub:
On the other hand, there is nothing different with the smart screen experience in Fuchsia, which is the whole point. Performance is still smooth and the camera works well.
We’re still waiting for the biggest interface redesign that was first seen at the second-generation Nest Hub in late March. Running with the previous Cast operating system, it offered a quick setup panel when you swiped down from the top of the screen. Dragging up from the bottom is totally reserved for the “apps” grid. This user interface renewal has not yet appeared widely. People who originally received this renewal have lost it.
Looking ahead, the “F7” version of Fuchsia later this month will bring the previously detailed update that removes the bridge and extension capabilities of the Hub Max. This is not the update that adds matter (via thread), but is just a preparation for it.
