The Great Northern Highway has reopened to traffic after a major accident with several trucks outside Newman forced the main road to be closed in both directions.
Three trucks, with loads of about 35 tons each, were involved in the collision, about 30 km north of the mining town of Pilbara, on Saturday afternoon.
The brakes of one of the vehicles are believed to have suddenly stalled, causing two trucks traveling in the same direction to collide with the rear of the first vehicle.

No one was seriously injured during the crowding, but police said it could take up to 24 hours to clear the scene, cutting a major road north of the state amid the school holidays.
However, police reported that the road had opened on Sunday morning.
The Great Northern Highway runs from Perth to Wyndham via Meekatharra, Newman, Port Hedland, Broome and Halls Creek.
