Nick Kyrgios accused of assaulting ex-girlfriend

Tennis star Nick Kyrgios will play his Wimbledon quarter-finals with an appearance on the court in Australia.

The tennis star has been summoned to face the ACT investigating court on August 2nd.

“(Police) can confirm that a 27-year-old Watson man will face ACT justice of the peace … in connection with a common assault charge following an incident in December 2021,” he said. say ACT police in a statement Tuesday.

The Canberra Times reports that the assault allegedly involved an ex-girlfriend.

Attorney Jason Moffett confirmed he had been informed of the matter and his client, Kyrgios, was aware of the indictment.

“It’s in the context of a domestic relationship,” Moffett told The Times.

“The nature of the charge is serious and Mr Kyrgios takes the charge very seriously.

“Given that the matter is before the court … it has no comment at this stage, but in due course we will issue a press release.”

The maximum sentence for the charge is two years.

Kyrgios will face Chilean Cristian Garin at the All England Club on Wednesday to secure a place in the Wimbledon semi-finals.

It will be the world’s only number 13 chance to make a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time in his tumultuous career.
