The Australian star defeated local favorite Paul Jubb by 3-6 6-1 7-5 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 in an entertaining match, but felt an amateur beat the mark in his interpellation.
After winning the match point, Kyrgios turned to one of the stands and spat on the ground as he headed into the net.
When a reporter asked him if he spat in the direction of that fan, Kyrgios replied, “Of one of the people I disrespected, yes. I wouldn’t do that to someone who supported me.
“I agree to receive a lot [heckling]. What I don’t understand is that as soon as I return it, for example in Stuttgart I returned it and I was penalized for the match.
“As soon as I won the match, I turned to him. I’ve been facing hatred and negativity for a long time, so I don’t feel like I owe anything to that person.
“He literally came to the party to not even support anyone. It was more simply to agitate and disrespect.”
Kyrgios had said earlier this month that he had suffered racial abuse by a crowd member at a tournament in Stuttgart, which organizers said they were investigating.
The Australian said he did not suffer racial abuse on Tuesday, but was concerned about the frequency of fan abuse.
“I just started to think it’s normal when it really isn’t,” he told reporters. “I didn’t say anything to the crowd until they started every time I went down to the end. I don’t know if it’s normal or not.
“It has nothing to do with Wimbledon. I think it’s a whole generation of people, like on social media, who feel they have a right to comment on all things in a negative way. It just comes down to real life.
“Because there’s a fence there and physically I can’t do anything or say anything because I’m going to get in trouble, so they just feel like they can say whatever they want.”
This was not the only point of interest of the match, as Kyrgios was also unhappy with a line judge’s call at one point in the first set.
He later said during his press conference that Wimbledon referees should be younger, as “in fact, younger people have a better view.”
Krygios are scheduled to play doubles with Thanasi Kokkinakis on Wednesday, before continuing their singles campaign against 26th seed Filip Krajinović on Thursday.
