It didn’t take place on the iconic center court, but the third-round match at Wimbledon 2022 between No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios offered fans the most exciting clock of the tournament to date.
Known for his combativeness on the court, Kyrgios certainly proved it here, but he overcame it to defeat Tsitsipas by 6-7 (2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7).

The climax of Kyrgios ’frustrations came just ahead of the third fundamental set, after winning the second set 6-4. Tsitsipas, frustrated after the set fell, threw a ball back into the stands, which would normally result in disciplinary action by the chair referee.

Kyrgios argued that Tsitsipas should have been incomplete for the action. The chairman Damien Dumusois did not see it that way, which led to Kyrgios participating in a brief protest.
“You can’t hit a ball against a crowd and hit someone and not stay pre-determined,” Kyrgios shouted at Dumusois. “I’d like to talk to a supervisor. I won’t play until I talk to a supervisor. Take out more supervisors. I’m not done. Take them all out.”

Kyrgios did not finish his theater, called Dumusois ashamed and soon after received a violation of the code to swear.
“The amount of shit the tournament will have after this press conference,” Kyrgios said during the blast.

Kyrgios was able to regain his composure during the third set, but not before Tsitsipas began to see his fiery side on the court. Tsitsipas hit the Australian three times in about five minutes, angered by Kyrgios’ attitude.
The theater existed in the work of track – especially in the fourth set – that had to be decided with a tiebrake. Kyrgios would grab both the set and the victory of the match, letting out a thunderous roar of celebration.

“I felt like the incoming favorite. I played a couple of weeks ago, but I knew it would be a tough game,” Kyrgios said. “He’s a hellish player and it was a hellish game. I’m very happy to have had it. Sometimes he got frustrated, it’s a frustrating sport. You all think you can play, but it’s very frustrating.
“I have the utmost respect for him. No matter what happens with the sport, I love him and I’m close to his brother, so …”
Kyrgios not only achieved one of the most important victories of his career as an individual, but advanced to the Sweet 16 at Wimbledon for the first time since 2016. The next for Kyrgios is a clash against American Brandon Nakashima Monday.
