Nine people have been injured after a horror crash on an Adelaide freeway involving seven cars, a bus and a truck.
Police said the crash happened just before 3.45pm on Sunday in Glen Osmond, at the intersection of Glen Osmond Rd and Portrush Rd, at the bottom of the South Eastern Fwy.
“A Mitsubishi truck towing a trailer failed to stop when entering the Cross Rd intersection,” police said in a statement.
“The truck driver was traveling on the low lane before colliding with a Hyundai SUV and a bus, which were stopped at the intersection.
“The truck continued through the intersection hitting five other vehicles. The impact also caused a Hyundai sedan to collide with a Toyota sedan.”
The injured people are between 23 and 88 years old.
The 60-year-old truck driver, from Queensland, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 76-year-old man, from Chiton, who was driving the Hyundai SUV was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
His passengers, a 66-year-old woman from Chiton and a 23-year-old woman from Killara in NSW, were also taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A 68-year-old man from Mount Barker, who was driving the bus, was not injured, but two women, aged 88 and 49, both from Ridgehaven, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
A 73-year-old man from Coomandook, who was driving a Subaru SUV, and his 73-year-old female passenger from Riverglades were treated in hospital for minor injuries.
The driver of a Skoda sedan, a 72-year-old woman from Urbrae, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital.
Police said all injured people were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
The other drivers involved in the collision were not injured.
They were a 42-year-old man from North Brighton driving a Mitsubishi sedan, a 30-year-old man from Greenacres driving a Toyota sedan, a 50-year-old woman from Normanville driving a Ford sedan, and a 50-year-old man from Balhannah behind the wheel of a Toyota sedan.
The intersection was closed for most of Sunday night but reopened on Monday, although traffic lights still needed repair and motorists were warned to expect delays.
“Investigations into the accident are continuing,” police said.
