TL; DR
- Nothing Phone 1 will initially be sold through an invitation system.
- This will be similar to how the first OnePlus phones were sold.
- Invitation codes may be available first to the Nothing community and first followers.
Anyone who has followed OnePlus from the beginning knows that the company has changed a lot over the years. He sold his first phones exclusively through an invitation system. While this made it difficult to get the phone, it allowed OnePlus to slowly increase its existence and artificially keep OnePlus in the news for even longer. It looks like Nothing is taking a page from the first OnePlus. Nothing, co-founded by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, will also have its own invitation system to sell Nothing Phone 1.

In a video posted by the company, Pei says, “When you make a very complicated product like a smartphone, it takes a while to grow. We could wait until we’ve accumulated a lot of phones and start sales then, or we can start selling as soon as possible. We have chosen the latter “.
Pei goes on to explain that Nothing wanted to have “at least some” phones in people’s hands. That’s why the company decided that Nothing Phone 1 would initially be sold through an invitation system “so that the people who deserve it most can buy it in the beginning.”
So how will the invitation system work? The company says it wants to make sure the first followers and community members have the phone first. Once that happens and the company increases production, the Phone 1 will start selling more widely.
Nothing has shared the exact details of the invitation system, but we will update this article when we know more.
In 2014, OnePlus sent its initial invitation codes to members of its online forums for the OnePlus One phone. After that, OnePlus One owners were able to send their own invitation codes to others. Codes had to be accepted within 24 hours. The company continued with this type of marketing until it abandoned its invitation method in 2016. If we had to guess, Nothing could follow a similar trajectory.
