Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott has rallied behind Victorian Opposition Leader Mathew Guy as his party faces an uphill battle to win November’s state election.

Abbott acknowledged the Victorian opposition has fair ground to make up if it hopes to beat the incumbent government at this year’s state election.

“I accept that, but the fact is that the Andrews government has been a very bad government, it has been ethically challenged, trust has been challenged,” Abbott told Sky News Australia.

Abbott said the Andrews government has been the “worst government in modern Australian history”.
