Engineers at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, said on May 25 that they had developed “the smallest remote-controlled walking robot” in the shape of a small crab. The crab robot is only half a millimeter wide and can “bend, twist, crawl, walk, turn and jump,” according to the university. Northwestern said that while its research is still exploratory at the moment, its researchers believe the technology could be used to perform practical tasks indoors. Images published by Northwestern University show the little robot moving from left to right. The images provided show a crab scale against the edge of a coin and the tip of a pen.
