Officials: Pottstown blast leaves 4 dead and 2 injured; others may still be missing

POTTSTOWN, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – At least four people have been killed in an explosion that shook a community in Pottstown, Pennsylvania on Thursday night.

It happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Block 400 on North Washington Street, near Butler Avenue.

In addition to the four fatalities, Pottstown Borough manager Justin Keller confirmed that two people were hospitalized for unknown injuries and that two others may still be missing.

Ruins could be seen scattered around the neighborhood after the blast destroyed at least one house.

Residents tell Action News they heard an explosion and then reported seeing a fire.

Christian Gonzalez says he initially thought it was thunder.

“I really thought it was a very loud thunder nearby, but it shook the area,” he said.

Police have not yet identified the victims.

There was no immediate word on what caused the explosion.

Keller said residents who need help should come to Pottstown Senior High School.

All schools in the district are canceled on Friday.
