Oh, waiter: Whyte Ridge student career choice can’t access 4th grade memory book

A Winnipeg mother and fourth grader are questioning an elementary school’s refusal to print yearbooks that say a 10-year-old wants to be a waiter when he grows up.

As the academic year draws to a close, a teacher at Whyte Ridge School, a K-4 building on the southwest corner of the city, is compiling a “memory book” for the 2022 class.

Recently, students have been surveyed about their professional aspirations, so memories can include photos of each student and a phrase about their young ambitions.
